As of January 1, 2026, Hartmut Heyer, founder of LAYERTEC GmbH, has stepped down from his active role as CEO. Full management responsibility has thus been transferred to Alexander Ancsin, who has already served as co-CEO alongside Hartmut Heyer since 2022.
The leadership transition is the result of a long-term, planned generational succession process. Alexander Ancsin has been with the company for many years and has already been responsible for day-to-day operations for an extended period. In recent years, Hartmut Heyer has gradually transferred responsibility for the company’s strategic management as well as for research and development, while progressively stepping back from business operations. With the formal transfer of executive management to Alexander Ancsin at the beginning of 2026, this process is now complete.
Hartmut Heyer founded LAYERTEC in the early 1990s in Mellingen near Jena. Starting from research and development in the field of optical coating technologies, the company has evolved over the past decades into an internationally active manufacturer of high-performance optics for laser applications. Today, LAYERTEC serves customers worldwide in industry, research, and science and is established in the photonics industry as a specialist in precision-manufactured and coated optics.
The company’s development is closely linked to the scientific and technological work of its founder. Over many years, Hartmut Heyer shaped the company’s technological direction and supported the continuous expansion of manufacturing, coating technology, and research capabilities.
With the change in management, LAYERTEC’s strategic direction remains unchanged. Continuity in technology development, quality, and customer focus continues to form the foundation of the company’s development.
Hartmut Heyer will remain associated with the company as an advisor and shareholder. LAYERTEC GmbH remains family-owned.
