Lateral structured optical interference coatings for use in high-power lasers

The aim of the project is to develop laterally structured optical devices based on high-quality coatings. Particular attention is paid to the laser-induced damage threshold of the optics in order to enable the subsequent use of the optics in high-power lasers.

Results

As part of the project, a structuring technology was developed that enables steep edges of the structured layers. Depending on the overall layer thickness, transition areas between 5 µm and 20 µm wide were created. The structuring process did not affect the damage threshold of the coatings. This means that components can be produced in which transmitting and reflecting surfaces or mirrors for different wavelengths are only a few µm apart.
