Optical materials and components as the basis of efficient high-energy lasers for energy generation through laser-controlled fusion (PriFUSIO)
Project No.: 13F1000E
Project description
The topic of the PRIFUSIO project is "Optical materials and components as the basis of efficient high-energy lasers for energy generation through laser-controlled fusion". In principle, this is a contribution to the development of laser systems for future nuclear fusion power plants. LAYERTEC is a member of the project consortium and is responsible for the sub-project "Optical components for efficient high-energy lasers". LAYERTEC has set itself the following objectives in the PRIFUSIO project:
- Development of optics (e.g. highly reflective mirrors and anti-reflective windows) with the highest possible laser-induced damage threshold (LIDT). Specifically, LAYERTEC aims to increase the ns-LIDT of highly reflective mirrors in the wavelength range of 1020 to 1080 nm by at least 15 % compared to a state-of-the-art measurement at the start of the project.
- Development of quartz glass substrates with the lowest defect level with high dimensional accuracy and low roughness for substrates in the sizes 50 mm, 150 mm and >300 mm
- Development of a polishing technology for doped CaF2 substrates with a diameter of approximately 50 mm. The aim here is also to maintain a low defect level, low roughness and very good shape fidelity at the same time.
- Development of concepts for the efficient production of a larger number of "full-size optics" (>300 mm) both in substrate production and in coating
